I am René Niklaus – a passionate traveler to Scotland, a political scientist with a PhD, and a storyteller. I live in Wiesbaden and work in the Hessian state administration.
After two scientific publications on internal security, I am now dedicating myself to my great passion: Scotland.
Why stories?
Storytelling has a long tradition in Scotland. Its roots lie in oral tradition, particularly in Celtic culture, and this tradition continues to this day.
As a storyteller, I see myself as someone who wants to make stories visible, tangible, and palpable – because often the story behind the story is no less exciting than the narrative itself. Good stories connect people, places, and times.
My inspiration
Inspired by a fascinating country and its warm-hearted people, I travel to Scotland up to three times a year – always in search of new places, encounters and stories.
Scotland is more than a travel destination – it's a feeling. And that's exactly what I want to convey in my stories.
How do I travel?
Always close to the people. That's how I encounter the best stories – often unexpectedly, sometimes even unprepared. These are the most wonderful experiences for me. That's what makes Scotland such a breathtakingly beautiful and exciting country.
On one of my trips, I met Amy Tomlins from Elgin, who runs ATom Tours Scotland . We quickly hit it off. Many of my stories wouldn't have been possible without her, her contacts, and her flexibility.
After a trip, she remains an important contact person. I enjoy discussing new experiences with her. She has become an integral part of my travel planning.
After one trip comes another.
